The YOU Matter Technique™
A gentle way back to yourself when everything feels like too much
The YOU Matter Technique™ is a simple, grounding practice designed for moments when grief, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm suddenly take over.
When you feel untethered, this technique invites you to come back into your body with kindness.
How to use the YOU Matter Technique™:
First, pause.
Wherever you are, stop for a moment. Place one hand over your heart. Take a slow breath in through your nose, and gently release it through your mouth. Whisper to yourself, I’m still here.
Next, affirm.
Say quietly or out loud, You matter.
Then say it again, this time directing it inward, I matter.
Let the words land. Let your body hear them.
Finally, act.
Choose one small, gentle action. It does not need to be big. Drink a glass of water. Step outside for fresh air. Write one sentence. Send one text. This small movement reminds your nervous system that you are not stuck, that life is still moving with you.
This technique can be used anytime. In the middle of the day. In the quiet of the night. As often as you need.
The 90-Second YOU Matter Reset
A moment to breathe, ground, and steady your body
Sometimes grief doesn’t need words.
It needs the body to feel safe again.
The 90-Second YOU Matter Reset is a breath-based grounding practice designed to calm the nervous system during moments of emotional intensity. It works by slowing your breathing and using gentle touch to signal safety to your body.
How to do the 90-Second YOU Matter Reset:
Sit or stand comfortably. Place one hand over your heart and the other on your belly.
Breathe in slowly for a count of four.
Hold the breath gently for a count of two.
Exhale slowly for a count of six.
Repeat this breathing cycle three times.
As you breathe, quietly remind yourself, Because I matter.
In just ninety seconds, your body begins to soften. Your heart rate slows. The wave passes. You come back to the present moment.
This reset can be done anywhere. No preparation. No perfection. Just breath.
The YOU Matter Breakthrough™
When you feel frozen and don’t know what to do next
Grief can make even the smallest decisions feel impossible. The YOU Matter Breakthrough™ was created for those moments when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or emotionally paralyzed.
This is a compassionate framework to help you move forward without forcing yourself.
The YOU Matter Breakthrough™ unfolds in three gentle steps:
Yield to the truth.
Place your hand over your heart and acknowledge what is real in this moment. You might say, This hurts. Or simply, I’m still here.
Open to the next kind step.
Ask yourself softly, What is the smallest, kindest step I can take in the next five minutes? Not the whole day. Just the next moment.
Unleash the action.
Count quietly, three… two… one… and take that step. One phone call. One breath. One movement.
This breakthrough is not about pushing past grief. It is about moving with care.
